Today's truffle trees come with pre-inoculated roots. But local soil conditions on the buyer's side can doom the young mycelium and leave buyer and seller disappointed. Air layering the stem or branch of the inoculated tree creates two separate root systems; One for the tree, one for the fungus. What's more - the boxed root system is both accessible and easy to control in terms of content.
